Videoconferencing on the Access Grid Node
Videoconferencing meetings scheduled for the Access Grid Node are typically managed by the AGN system
administrator, Mike McMahon. With the exception of unusual or unexpected events, users (including
faculty and staff) should not attempt to start a videoconference unless they have been trained on
the system. However, in the event that unexpected circumstances arise, the following instructions can be used
to initiate a videoconference with a remote location.
Logon to the AGN Computer
The AGN computer has a restricted user account which allows guests to load and show
their presentations on the AGN computer, as well as make basic videoconferencing connections.
Use the following information to logon to the AGN computer:
- Username: AGN
- Password: grid
Turn on Projectors
The projectors for the system may be turned on using the Power button on each of the units. It takes
approximately 45 seconds for the projectors to warm up. When the projectors are turned off - a feat
accomplished by pressin ght ePower button twice - they cannot be turned back on for at least
one minute due to hardware constraints. Please do not try to frequently turn the projectors on and off as
it may damage the hardware or projector bulbs.
Join a Videoconference
To join a conference hosted by another Access Grid Node, the user must know the venue - or
virtual location - that the conference is being held. This is typically a room such as
Desert Research Institute, University of Nevada, Reno, or Access DC. To join one
of the venues, follow these steps:
- Open Intetnet Explorer by double-clicking the desktop icon
- Press Enter when prompted for a username and password
- Select the venue - or virtual room - that you wish to join from the drop-down menus on the inSORS Integrated Communications page
- Click the Multicast button next to the drop-down menu with the venue you wish to join
- Click Yes on the dialog box that asks is you wish to join the unencrypted venue
