NCS3 enables neuroscientists to design, execute, and analyze large-scale, biologically realistic brain simulations using the supercomputing Beowulf network of the University of Nevada, Reno. Our goal is to emulate a multicolumnar brain of up to 1 million compartmental neurons by the year 2003. NCS3 is intended to augment laboratory experimentation to yield a depper understanding of brain physiology. Specific applications include brain-like AI and robotics.
NCS3 development is funded primarily through
the Neural Computation program of the
U.S. Office of Naval Research. NCS3 may be used by authorized scientists based upon CPU availability
and ONR research priorities.
