The Access Grid™ is an ensemble of resources consisting of:
- Multimedia large-format displays
- Presentation & interactive environments
- Interfaces to Grid middleware and visualization environments
The Access Grid Node (AGN) in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering is available to students and University of Nevada, Reno faculty for various collaborative purposes. Located in SEM 201, the AGN is specifically designed for large-scale distributed meetings, collaborative work sessions, seminars, lectures, tutorials, and training sessions that span the globe. With this technology at their disposal, students remain up-to-date with technological advances worldwide. Additionally, the developments of researchers - especially graduate students - can be instantly and conveniently announced and shared with the global scientific and business communities.
The systems that comprise the AGN run a proprietary version of the open-source Access Grid™ videoconferencing software provided by inSORS Integrated Communications. This software, though proprietary, is compatible with the open-source software used by other AGNs around the world, but enhances the videoconferencing capabilities of the system by adding various streamlined features not found in the public version. Combined with the computing power of a dual-Xeon workstation and 20-foot wide by 5-foot high display system, the AGN in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering is an ideal location for small- and medium-sized conferences.
