The login servers for the for the department have changed. Login restrictions are in effect on the mail server pinon.cse.unr.edu. If you are using mail filters, they still work - only SSH logins have been disabled.
The following are the login servers that can be accessed from outside the campus network:
- pine.cse.unr.edu / cse.unr.edu - Linux/Fedora Core 4
- banyan.cse.unr.edu - Solaris 10
- sequoia.cse.unr.edu - FreeBSD 5.4
Resource limits are in place for each user to prevent spinning, fork() bombs, and memory consumption from impacting other users. If you need more resources than are allowed on these servers, login to remote1-3 and run your program from there.

The department domain name has been changed from cs.unr.edu to cse.unr.edu. Both DNS entries point to the pinon server and not the banyan server. Secure connections - such as those used with SSH - will complain about the new domain. To resolve this issue, delete the existing cs.unr.edu encryption/security key and then connect to cse.unr.edu. Additionally, the web server has been converted to the new domain.

The graduate computing lab has moved to SEM 248. Please see the office or one of the faculty for the combination to the new location.

Pinon is no longer a login server. Banyan must be used for all logins.
12:29a.m.
The Pinon server has been reloaded. Some e-mail was lost in the process.
3:14p.m.
The CSE DNS entry for cs.unr.edu now points to pinon.cs.unr.edu instead of banyan.cs.unr.edu. SSH and other secure conection programs will complain about using the wrong security/encryption key for the server. To correct this, delete the existing cs.unr.edu key and connect to cs.unr.edu again. This will acquire the new key and eliminate the problem.
2:12p.m.
There are various other systems on which to perform software development remotely, using SSH:
- Linux systems: remote1, remote2, remote3
