Graduate Student Information
The information on this page applies to all students admitted
to the Department of Computer Science & Engineering graduate program at the
University of Nevada, Reno. Students are responsible for attending
to all items listed on this page, as well as becoming familiar
with the regulations governing advanced degrees, which may be
found at the Graduate School web site.
File an Approved Program of Study
This form, which specifies the courses used to satisfy degree requirements,
as well as an approved graduate committee, may be obtained at the
Department of Computer Science & Engineering office.
Form a Graduate Committee
For a Master of Science degree, a committee consists of a major advisor and
two additional members. In the case of the Doctor of Philosophy degree, a
committee consists of a major advisor and four additional members. Members of
the committee must be selected form the list of Graduate Faculty posted on
the Graduate School web site.
Obtain a UNR E-mail Account
UNR e-mail acounts will be used by faculty and staff to communicate with students.
E-mail may be accessed from any computer on campus, or may be configured to
forward messages to another e-mail account.
File a Notice of Completion
A Notice of Completion must be filed with the Graduate School when completing
the final written or oral examination, or when defending a Master's thesis,
professional paper, or doctoral dissertation. Students will not graduate without
filing this form.
Apply to Graduate
Applications for graduation can be purchased at the Cashier's Office in the Student
Services Building. These applications must be submitted by the deadlines outlined in the
current class schedule.
Complete a Doctoral Degree Admission Report
All Ph.D. students must complete a Doctoral Degree Admission to Candidacy/Comprehensive Examination
Report with the Graduate School. This should be done after the coursework and written/oral examinations
have been completed, and before the defense of the dissertation.
Get Information
Any questions that students have should be directed to the either their advisor or
Graduate School. It is the responsibility of the student to contact one of these
entities in a timely matter to resolve any problems they encounter. It is also recommended
that any form, memo, or other written material sent by the student or their advisor
to the Graduate School be copied and retained by the student.
