We will use two methods for evaluating the accuracy of the hand state estimates:

bullet

Quantitative Evaluation: We will collect ground truth data using the phase angle search coil technique (C-N-C Engineering; Seattle, WA). Six-turn search coils made from multi-strand insulated wires will be attached to appropriate parts of the hand to measure displacement of the digits, hand and wrist. The hand will then be placed within a magnetic field to record the horizontal, vertical and torsional displacement for each search coil. This equipment is available at BioVIS Lab.

bullet

Visual Evaluation: We built an animation system to display the state of the hand.
