Hi, I've enjoyed your site and look forward to building a J in the near future. I have not done much in models in the past (a little in M class years ago). However, I am an accomplished boat builder skilled in both wood and fiberglass. My home is on Cape Cod and I would like to contact like minded folks in the area.

Built a Ranger fiberglass hull with Don Seals in Maine on Kerrigan's plug a couple of summers ago and am just beginning to collect needed items to get this project going. I have to finish an A/C class boat first. I will be contacting you, John, for more info on the automotive window regulator sail winch described in the recent "Model Yachting" (no. 128) and rudder servo sizes, etc. I was wondering if we couldn't make the sail winch proportionally controlled similar to the Ozimun winch I am using in my A/C boat. I have a electronics wizard friend who is interested in tackling the job. Is there anyone in the New Jersey area working on a J or anyone with one in the water?

1934 Rudder Magazines have beautiful fotos and articles on J Class. I made a 36" detailed model 68 years ago which drew admiring comments from real yachties when sailing her in the "duck pond" in Beacon Hill Park in Victoria B.C. I think I'll get into the larger scale if my wife will let me.

Are there any restrictions when building the hull? kevlar, cabon fiber, balsa or foam core etc. One of the most classic RC boats one can sail..... Cheers |

Great site and an important one as well. I am currently tooling up for four (4) J class hulls to be manufactured. Ranger, Rainbow, Shamrock V and Endeavor II. The Ranger plug is being started now, and due to the size of the project and the other hulls to be produced as well it will take some time, but they are atleast on the way. I hope to have Ranger mold completed by the end of July.
