Objective
The objective of this lab is to
give students hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting
basic digital circuits. This hands-on experience reinforces the abstract
concepts presented in the class lectures and textbook.
Rules
- Food and drink are not allowed in the
lab.
- Students are responsible for cleaning their station before
leaving the lab.
- Students can access the lab at any time except during other
scheduled lab sections.
- Students must copy their resutls to their disks or recordable
CDs. Any files they saved in the computer hard disk will be automatically
deleted when the computer is shut down.
- Students can work in groups of two (at most three), but will turn
in individual lab reports.
- Each student must have a prototyping
breadboard and jumper wire kit for building digital circuits, implement
the circuits on his/her own breadboard and show his/her results to the
lab instructor. (The JE-24 prototyping breadboard and JE-10 jumper wire
kit are available at the University Bookstore).
Lab reports
Lab reports should have the following format:
- Course title, section number, lab number , name, date (on
a cover page or the upper part of the first page) (5 points).
- Introduction - (5 points).
- Objective - (5 points).
- Procedure/Results - (80 points).
- Conclusion: In the Conclusion the student must explain the
Results in light of the Procedure, i.e., if the results are incorrect,
explain why, if possible - (5 points).
- ALL LAB REPORTS MUST BE TYPEWRITTEN. NO PRINTING,
HAND-DRAWING, ETC.
Grading Policy
- Lab reports are due one week after the lab.
- Lab reports can be turned in at the end of the current lab
session.
- Late lab reports will NOT be accepted, except
in the case of an extreme emergency which prevents the lab reports
from being turned in on time.
- Reports have a maximum possible grade of 100 points.
- Plagiarism will not be tolerated and students who have identical
lab reports or have not implemented circirts on
their own individual breadboards will receive zero
points for that lab.
