[edit] New Faculty Startup Funds Solicitation (Posted: May 28, 2007)

Nevada’s NSF EPSCoR Program “Research Infrastructure for Nevada’s Growth - Targeting Research with Uniqueness and Excellence III (RING-TRUE III)” announces opportunities for faculty startup funds as part of a research development program on cognitive information processing and its applications. Startup funding will be available through the Cognitive Information Processing (CIP) Program of Nevada’s existing NSF EPSCoR grant. Note the following:

  • Startup funding is available for new faculty hires with an interest in bio-informatics.
  • Nevada EPSCoR will provide supplemental faculty startup funds provided there is at least a 1:1 match from the candidate's campus. Please provide a letter of match support.

The Nevada Sponsored Projects Office expects approximately $400,000 in EPSCoR funds to be available for new faculty hires. We solicit applications from deans or chairs from UNLV, UNR, and Executive Division Directors at DRI, for candidates who have been identified for a faculty position as a result of a national search. Applications must include:

  • The candidate's CV
  • A research statement that provides a clear indication of how the candidate's research fits the CIP focal area goals (1 or 2 pages maximum)
  • A statement of how the candidate will interact with the CIP focal area (1 page)

[edit] Submitting an application

Applications are to be sent to Alice Ward (Alice_Ward@nshe.nevada.edu) with the subject line: CIP Supplemental Startup Request. The deadline for submissions is 5:00 p.m. June 22, 2007.

AAn advisory committee will make recommendations on funding based on the relevance of the candidate’s research to the NSF EPSCoR CIP goals. The advisory committee’s recommendation will be passed on to the NSF EPSCoR Project Director, Dr. Gayle Dana, for final approval. We would like to remind you that in addition to the funds available from the CIP group, the RING-TRUE III grant has budgeted a significant amount of supplemental startup funds for minority hires. You would contact Dr. Gayle Dana (gayle.dana@dri.edu), directly for requesting these funds.
