Server 2008 R2

you are installing on-campus you do not need to download them. I will have copies of the install DVD in the
lab. Be sure to save your installation
keys for future reference. Look through
the list of other software that’s available.
You may want to get copies of some of these before you graduate.
You
may want to add the following to your .bashrc to make
vim your default editor:
export EDITOR=vim
Or
add it to /etc/bash.bashrc to make it the default for
all users next time they login
Make
sure your system has all the latest updates:
sudo apt-get
dist-upgrade; sudo reboot

Build
a Windows7 VM using the MSDN-AA media
Start
-> VMware Player -> Create a New Virtual Machine
Install
Windows7 32-bit without a key (this gives you a 120-day demo)
Select
the option “I will install the operating system later”
Guest
Operating System: 1. Microsoft Windows Version: Windows 7
Virtual
Machine Name: use the default
Disk
Size: 10GB Store virtual disk as a single file
[If
you are loading from an ISO then do the following:
Customize
Hardware -> Select DVD/CD -> Browse to your ISO]
Finish
Before
starting the Windows 7 VM insert the Windows 7 DVD
Select:
Play Virtual Machine
The
first time you run VMware Player on a new kernel it builds the kernel modules
(takes time)
Download
and install the VMware Tools after Windows 7 is installed and running
Press
CTRL-ALT to release input
Select
VM -> CTRL-ALT-DEL if you need to reboot
You
can delete the virtual machine and recreate it if you get stuck
Create
another virtual machine with Windows Server 2008 R2
ls –l $HOME/vmware/*/*.vm* > /tmp/handson6.txt
Submit
