Note:

How to setup a CUPS Printer

  1. Go into the printers and faxes control panel and add a new printer
  2. Select "network printer" and click next
  3. Select "Internet or home network", enter the URL (from table above), and click next
  4. Pick the manufacturer/model of the printer (PS series) and click OK

Howto setup the new HP Color LaserJet 4700dn Printer (aka Rainbow)

The printer setup mentioned in the prior e-mail is not working on most computers. If you've already installed the new rainbow printer, remove it now and reboot.

Revised instructions to setup rainbow: (Use PCL 6, Postscript driver is buggy)

  1. Download and install the print driver at:
    ftp://ftp2.cse.unr.edu/install/windows/drivers/clj4700pcl6win2kxp2003.exe
    This driver is different from the one mentioned before. If asked to replace files, select Yes to All.
  2. Go into the printers and faxes control panel and add a new printer
  3. Select "Local printer" and uncheck "Automatically detect plug & play printer"
  4. At the next screen, select Create a New Port, then TCP/IP printer in the drop box below it
  5. When asked for the host name, type rainbow.cse.unr.edu. Do not add ":631" or anything other than the host name. If there is a message saying that the port name is already in use, change the port name to rainbow (but not the host name).
  6. When asked for the driver, press Have Disk and select the C:\clj4700\ folder. The driver name is the HP Color LaserJet 4700 PCL 6 driver. (not PS, PCL 6 black, or PCL 5)
  7. If asked to reinstall the current driver, select Yes.
  8. When asked for the printer name, replace the default with "rainbow"
