Symantec Anti-Virus Client
On-campus Installation:
From on-campus you can install the managed client using this link: antivirus.unr.edu
(requires Internet Explorer)
The install takes a few minutes to complete, so be patient.
Off-campus Installation:
From off-campus you can download the standalone client using this
link.
Then double-click on unr_sav.exe to install.
The install takes a few minutes to complete, so be patient.
Warning:
Remove any existing anti-virus software (Sophos, Norman, Norton, McAffee,
Symantec) before installing the new version of Symantec. Running more than
one anti-virus program will cause your system to hang:
- Start -> Control Panel -> Add / Remove Software
If you're unable to uninstall Norman download the
uninstall program.
Save it to your desktop, then double-click to run it.
Configure Automatic Updates:
To configure your client for automatic updates:
(skip this step if you're running the managed client from on-campus)
- Right click on the yellow shield in the icon tray
- Select Open Anti-Virus Client
- Click on Live Update button
- Click Configure button
- Select Express mode
- Select Automatic
- Select File -> Schedule Updates
- Make sure the Enable scheduled updates box is checked
- Click the Schedule button
- Configure for Daily at 11am (or any time you prefer)
- Click OK twice to get back to the main window
- Run a scan on your Local Drives
- File -> Liveupdate (get the latest updates)
- Click on the Scan Computer icon
- Select your Local Disks
- Click Scan button - takes about 1 hour to run
