Defensive Tactics Against Small Boat Swarms
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
-
General Description:
Navy boats are being attacked by smaller boats. When a big Navy ship is being attacked, it needs to follow a tactic to safely avoid being blown up by the smaller enemy boat.
-
Research Question
Can a GA be used to create tactics?
-
Approach
In this scenario, 1 large boat will be attacked by 1 small boat. Depending on the smaller boat's speed and bearing, the larger boat will have to decide on what path to take to avoid disaster.
-
Evaluation and Fitness Function
The speed/bearing/position of the Navy boat will be encoded into a bitstream and then evaluated against the current speed/bearing/position of the smaller boat. Another approach would be to locate the best destination based on where the enemy boat is headed, and then plan how to get there.
-
Questions
How do you decide who won? Is just facing away from the smaller boat before it crashes in to the larger boat enough? Does the larger boat have access to weapons? If it does, what are the capabilities of these weapons?
