ASCII Character Set

ASCII - (Pronounced AS-KEY) - American Standard Code for Information Interchange.

Characters in computers are encoded in computers using a scheme where an integer represents a particular character.
The ASCII character set is one scheme widely used.  Most computers use ASCII.  Another scheme - EBCEDIC is
used on some (usually IBM mainframes).

'a' + 1 is 'b'   and 'C' + 1 is "D" because of ASCII.
