George Bebis (Project Director)
Ph.D., ECE, University of Central Florida, Orlando, 1996
Prof. George Bebis completed his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and
Computer Engineering in 1996 at the University of Central Florida, Orlando,
FL. From 1996 to 1997 he was a visiting assistant professor at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. During the summer of
1998, he was a summer faculty visitor at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (CASC). Currently, he is an assistant professor in the Computer Science Department
at UNR and the founder-director of the UNR Computer Vision Laboratory. He has extensive background and
experience in computer vision, image processing, neural networks, pattern
recognition, and genetic algorithms. In the area of computer vision, he has
focused his efforts on the problem of object recognition with the goal of
improving the performance of existing approaches as well as developing new
approaches. Other areas of his research include face detection, face
recognition, face-pose, hand-pose estimation, eye-gaze estimation, human
activity recognition, surveillance, and biometrics.

Dwight Egbert (coPI)
Ph.D. EE, University of Kansas, Lawrence, 1976
Prof. Dwight Egbert is in his fifteenth year as a full-time academic engineer
with the University of Nevada, Reno College of Engineering. He is currently the
Director of Computer Engineering Undergraduate Programs and Director of the
College of Engineering Computer Center. He has authored more than 70 original
research papers and reports dealing with computer applications in computer
vision, remote sensing, image processing, and neurocomputing.

Ellen Jacobson (coPI)
MBA, University of Nevada, Reno, Reno, 1988
Mrs. Ellen Jacobson has been involved in undergraduate programs, both in a
classroom setting and as a coordinator for undergraduate research programs,
for over 20 years. This includes curriculum and special programs development
for students and teachers, and providing K-16 access to the research activities
within the University and Community College System of Nevada. Most recently she
has participated in program evaluation and enhancement for the EPSCoR
activities and undergraduate research programs on both campuses and at the
Desert Research Institute.

Meggin McIntosh (coPI)
Ph.D., Reading Education and Linguistics, University of North Texas, 1988
Dr. Meggin McIntosh is currently the Director of the Excellence in Teaching Program, a unit of Academic Affairs.
Dr. McIntosh is recognized around campus and around the state as an excellent
educator and has numerous awards and certificates attesting to this perception.
Since 1994, prior to the creation of the Excellence in Teaching Program,
Professor McIntosh offered courses for faculty on ways to improve their
instruction. Her research interests include ways of helping students learn
mathematics and science concepts, means to ensure that students become
strategic learners, and methods of helping faculty become strategic teachers.
