Standard Install

After installing Windows we'd recommend installing the following software:

AntiVirus

Installing AntiVirus software is the first thing you should do - requires your NetID to download

Symantec Endpoint Protection (Download the Non-University-Owned computers version)

Easy PC Setup - Download/Install Multiple Programs Fast

Many of the programs listed below can be installed at once using Ninite or Google Pack

ftp2 (local freeware mirror - may be out-of-date)

Foxit Reader (Use Foxit instead of Acrobat Reader which has too many security vulnerabilities)
doPDF (Creates PDF files for free - use instead of Acrobat)
ISO Recorder XPsp2 Vista 64 Vista 32 (Win7 comes with burn ISO built-in)
SecondLife
Ghostscript/Ghostview
Network Printer FAQ

Join the Domain:

Join the unr.edu domain.
XP: Right-click "My Computer" -> Properties -> Computer Name
Vista/Win7: Right-click "My Computer" -> Properties -> Advanced Settings -> Computer Name

If you exceed the limit of joining 10 computers to the domain, Jeff Springer can add you to the unlimited group

Add the Admins group

Add the following group to your Administrator group:
Right-click "My Computer" -> Manage -> Users and Groups -> Groups -> Administrator
