Harris, As program chair for the 1995 Golden West International Conference on Intelligent systems, I am pleased to inform you that the reviews of you submission have been completed and your submission has been ACCEPTED. Please use the assigned paper number in any correspondence related to your paper. I am notifying authors both by email and by post. You should shortly receive (by post) an acceptance letter, author instructions, guidelines for preparation and submission of the final camera-ready version, the ISCA copyright form, and request for a brief biography. Please note that the camera-ready copy must be ready and reach the conference coordinator by May 10th 1995. I've appended an electronic version of the "Author's Registration Form." You will also find reviewers' comments and suggestions enclosed in this letter. Most papers received between 2 and 3 reviews. I will be sending additional comments to you as I receive them. Please make every effort to incorporate suggested changes and address questions of substance. Remember, the quality of the final paper is largely up to you. Your paper's title and GWICS paper number are listed below. Please use this number in any correspondence related to your submission. Paper Number: GWICS95-20 Title: "Solving Quadratic Assignment Problems Through Parallel Genetic Algorithms" Contact Author: Frederick C. Harris More information about the conference and registration will be available in the posted letter. If you have any questions related to your submission please contact me at the address below I look forward to meeting you at the conference. Sincerely, -- Sushil J. Although I personally believe that parallel GAs have super-linear advantages, I think this paper fails to scientifically illustrate this point. What definative evidence is given here, save vague comments like "GAs seem reasonably effective..."? The paper also has numerous other problems. At the end of page 3, it implies that the best individual in the last population is the GA's solution. This is not always the case. On page 4, suggesting that Goldberg says that the GA should always be blind to the application is simply wrong. The disscusion of reproduction (better termed selection) is vague and misleading. The mention of schemata is completely misleading. It could be read that GAs explicitly examine schemata, which they don't. Why are they mentioned at all, if they are to be given so little treatment? The discussion of the evaluation function at the top of page 5 is perplexing. Isn't this what selection does? The discussion of the selection method actually used is vague as well (page 6). What is uniform order based crossover (page 7)? =============================================================================== Review 2 ----------- GWICS95 Paper Review Form Comments for the Author(s) Paper Num: P20 Title: Solving Quadratic Assignment Problems Through Parallel Genetic Algorithms Reviewer Num: R29 EVALUATION: (1 = excellent, 9 = poor) excellent........................poor | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Overall significance : 2 Technical Content : 2 Scholarship/Technical Soundness : 1 Originality : 2 Organization/writing/clarity : 1 Further comments, advice for the author (use as much space as you need): 1. The authors should consider running several non-interacting GAs i.e. same as running a GA several times and compare results obtained in terms of best possible result obtanied by the regular GA. =============================================================================== THE FOURTH GOLDEN WEST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS June 12 - 14, 1995, San Fransisco, CA, USA Please complete this form and return with your registration fee, camera-ready manuscript, ISCA copyright form, and presenter's brief biography by MAY 10, 1995. ------------- Paper code #:________________________ Number of Pages:____________________ First Name:________________ MI:________ Last Name:_______________________ Position:__________________________ Title:________________________________ Organization:_____________________________________________________________ Address:__________________________________________________________________ City:______________________________ State/Province:_______________________ Zip/Postal Code:___________________ Country:______________________________ Telephone:_________________________ Fax:__________________________________ E_mail:___________________________________________________________________ A/V Equipment needed: Overhead Projector [Y/N] Slide Projector [Y/N] I plan to attend the complementary Lunch Banquet on June 13, 1995 [Y/N] Author Registration Fee: ------------------------ An author may register for a maximum of two papers with this fee.
