Yes, halfway through my Senior year I have decided to change my major from Mechanical Engineering to Computer Science. Am I crazy?!? Don't I realize that most of the classes I have taken won't apply to my new major?
and I've finally reached a decision. I've taken a road trip and weighed the advantages of each major. I've paced the room countless times, torn apart three different course catalogs, and pulled out enough hair to sell to the Hair Club for Men to finance the rest of my education.
Despite the equation at the top of the page, the real reason I changed was based solely on interest. I've simply lost most of my interest in mechanical engineering. Of course, now I know why I really chose the major to begin with...
I enrolled in the University as a Pre-Engineering major. Not knowing which field I wanted to go into, I put off the decision until I got the following letter in the mail from the Dean:
Dear Daniel:
According to Admissions and Records you are enrolled as a Pre-engineering major. In checking your records, I have found that your course work is consistent with the Mechanical Engineering major and you have met the qualifications to be admitted to that major. I congratulate you on your accomplishment and have instructed Admissions and Records to change your major accordingly.
That was it! I never actually made the decision for myself! It was made for me, and for 2 more years I never stopped to think that maybe it wasn't the right major for me.
The down-side to this is that I'll have to update my resume and other documents. Otherwise, things should start going rather well. I should generally be a happier person now.
