- An ethernet connection with TCP/IP software configured so that the server
workstation is a node on the Internet is essential.
- Most any recent computing platform( 1988 onwards), will be acceptable as
a light traffic server. Any 486 system that has a good service record
will make a excellent server.
- Single user operating systems are not suitable for permanent information
servers.
- At least 16 Mb of RAM is recommended. 32 Mb of RAM is the minimum for a
UNIX workstation based server. A fast hard drive and adapter card are needed
too.
- 1 Gb of on line storage is recommended for starting a light traffic server.
