Getting to Washington/Maryland

Baltimore/Washington International Airport: (410) 859-7032. Located approximately 40 minutes from Washington. BWI Rail Station features more than 30 daily trains to/from Washington's Union Station. For ground transportation information, call (410) 859-7545.

Taxi

DC cabs are plentiful and can be easily hailed on major streets. Taxis operate on a zone system instead of meters. By law, basic rates must be posted in the cab. There is a $1.25 charge for each additional passenger and a $1 surcharge during evening rush hours (4-6:30 p.m.). Telephoning for a cab adds $1.50 to the fare. Suburban cabs have metered fares. Those with Virginia or Maryland license plates may transport you in and out of the District, but not between points within the District.

Taxi service from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to Bethesda costs approximately $16-$25 each way; fare from both Baltimore- Washington International (BWI) and Dulles Airports to Bethesda is approximately $37- $55 each way. Limousine service is also available between the airports and Bethesda. For more information on limousine service, call (301) 258-7755.

Metrorail to the Hotel

Metrorail and Metrobus provide a safe, clean and efficient way of getting around the nation's capital. Five rail lines combine with an extensive bus system, connecting the District and the Maryland and Virginia suburbs.

Train lines are named for colors: Red, Yellow, Orange, Blue and Green. Station entrances are marked by brown pylons capped by the letter "M" and colored stripes indicating which lines are available. Route maps are posted inside each station and subway car.

Trains operate 5:30 a.m.-midnight Monday-Friday and 8 a.m.-midnight Saturday and Sunday. Each train displays the name of its farthest destination. Buses travel to Georgetown and other areas not serviced by the subway.

Rail farecards must be purchased at vending machines located inside the stations. The base fare is $1.25 for travel Monday-Friday 5:30-9:30 a.m. and 3-7 p.m. and $1 at all other times. For convenience, there is a one-day pass available for $5. Riders may use this pass anytime after 9:30 a.m. weekdays and all day weekends and holidays.

If you are arriving at National Airport, you may use the Metrorail system to reduce your out-of-pocket expenses. From the airport, board the Yellow Line train towards Mt. Vernon Square-UDC Station to Gallery Place. Transfer to the Red Line towards Shady Grove or Grosvenor Station. You should exit the train at the Medical Center Station. The hotel is situated within a 10 to 14 minute walk south along Wisconson Ave. (Update: there seems to be another station which is adjacent to the hotel: Bethesda Metro Station (just prior to Medical Center Station) -- Thanks go to Art Boots for letting us know).
