Founded in 2013, DFI is an applied-agriculture program of UNR's land-grant college. It runs a certified-organic training farm and nursery at the Valley Road Experiment Station that sells produce and plants to fund training. It runs student internships, a year-long Nevada Farm Apprenticeship, a farm incubator pilot, a statewide produce-safety program with the Nevada Department of Agriculture, and grower networks.
